TANNING TIPS
Spray Tanning FAQ's
1. What is Instant DHA Sunless Tanning?
DHA Sunless Tanning is a tanning system that, in just one 5-minute session, achieves a tan that lasts approximately 7 days. It is applied by spraying a lotion with a DHA (sugar-cane) base that reacts upon contact with the skin, generating an instant, entirely natural tan.
2. What is DHA?
DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) is a sugar-cane by-product. It is a 100% natural active ingredient, entirely harmless for the skin, which has been used for over 40 years for medical purposes.
3. How does DHA act on the skin?
DHA reacts on the outermost layer of the skin (stratum corneum), upon contact with the free aminoacids of the skin proteins (keratin), producing a natural reaction that tans the surface of the skin without activating the skin's normal tanning mechanism (melanin).
4. Can DHA sunless tanning cause allergic reactions?
DHA is a large-sized molecule which cannot penetrate the deeper layers of the skin, and is therefore harmless, as it can only act on its outermost layer. As it does not react with melanin, it is practically impossible for it to cause any kind of allergic reaction.
5. Is the tan truly instant?
Yes, within a few seconds of completing the spray session, the tan reaches 60%-80% of its intensity (this may vary depending on skin type: degree of moisture, acidity, etc.). The tone will gradually intensify in the course of the following hours, as the DHA reacts with the skin proteins, reaching maximum intensity within 24 hours from application.
6. How long does the tan usually last?
The tan lasts an average of 6 to 7 days. Factors such as skin type, daily activity and skin care make the results vary considerably from one person to another.
7. Why does it last between 6 and 7 days?
Because it is a superficial tan that is generated on the outermost layer of the skin (stratum corneum). The cells that make up this layer of skin are renewed by natural regeneration without us realising every 6 to 7 days, and therefore the tan achieved on that layer of skin disappears gradually within the same period of time.
8. Why does it last less for some people?
Women who remove their makeup several times a day, or use strong tonics to do so, will notice that their facial tan lasts less than usual. Habits such as frequently bathing in chlorine-treated swimming pools or beaches with fine sands may also reduce the normal duration of the tan.
9. Do some people not react to DHA?
Statistically, 1 out of every 10,000 people do not react to DHA and therefore do not achieve an instant tan, although the exact cause is unknown.
10. Is it necessary to protect hair during the application?
No, DHA does not react upon contact with hair or body hair, and it is therefore not necessary to take any special precautions during application, unlike with traditional self-tanning methods.
11. Does it stain clothing?
DHA does not stain, as it does contain dye or makeup, although during the first hours following application, small DHA particles may be transferred to clothing. As DHA is a water-soluble component, it is easily washed out from natural fibres such as cotton.
12. How many sessions are required to achieve a deep tan?
In only one session you can achieve a tan as deep as you wish (it depends on the lotion applied and the skin tone).
13. How long does a session take?
The application takes between 1 and 5 minutes, depending on the areas to be tanned, and does not require drying time, as the hot air and the misting ensure that the exclusive Corpora lotion dries instantly.
14. How often can I take a session?
We recommend a session every 7 days. You may take as many sessions as you wish, although we recommend an exfoliation between sessions to eliminate possible residue.
15. Why is it better than spray tanning booths?
Today, automatic DHA spraying in vertical booths still presents many problems and disadvantages:
- the fixed injectors do not adapt to the morphological differences of clients (height, width), nor to their position and movements inside the booth
- "DHA rain" in the booth creates stains in areas where DHA should not be applied (palms of hands, nails, etc.),
- inhalation of concentrated DHA in an enclosed space is not advisable,
- and, most importantly: control over the quality and the uniformity of the tan is lost.
16. Why does tanning with compressors and airbrushes offer worse results?
Designed for nail-painting and tattooing, the use of airbrushes and compressors for DHA tanning is highly questionable, as the pressure of the misting is too high and the jet is too narrow. As they spray a great amount of product with a great deal of pressure and at a great distance, airbrushes stain walls and waste a great deal of lotion. As they do not have a drying function, product excess on the skin stains clothes and generates very irregular results. Used in the first days of DHA Sunless Tanning, nowadays, they have been rendered obsolete, given their poor performance and client dissatisfaction.
17. How is Corpora's technology different from that of the compressor + airbrush system?
The Corpora kits have been designed specifically for DHA sunless tanning, with an exclusive proprietary technology. They all incorporate high volume and low density misting turbines, wide-angle spray guns, and a hot-air drying system, which, together with the Corpora lotions, provide very quick and pleasant sessions, as well as a natural and lasting tan.
18. What is the different between the Corpora lotion and others?
The great secret of the Corpora lotions is that they generate an absolutely natural and personal tan tone, which disappears gradually leaving no traces. The Corpora lotion is an exclusive formula developed after years of research that offers a 100% guarantee of achieving a uniform, healthy and moisturised tan. Other lotions combine makeup and DHA, and are therefore stickier, they do not dry evenly, staining fabrics and often leaving traces on the skin.
19. Why does Corpora present its lotion in 3 different formulas?
CORPORA works with three different lotions, with a specific formulation for each skin-type: Fair Skin Lotion, Medium Skin Lotion and Dark Skin Lotion. This makes perfect sense, as different skin-types require different care. The main difference lies in the DHA concentration in each lotion: 5% in the Fair Skin Lotion, 7% in the Medium Skin Lotion and 9% in the Dark Skin Lotion. In addition, the Fair Skin Lotion includes a higher concentration of moisturising and nutrient agents.
20. I've heard that DHA lotion leaves your skin dry, is this true?
No, the Corpora DHA lotion does not leave skin dry; on the contrary, it is enriched with Aloe Vera and Retinol (Vitamin A), thereby nourishing, moisturising and softening the skin while tanning it.
21. Given DHA is a sugar, can it affect diabetics?
No, DHA is a sugar-cane extract, but it is a topical product, that does not penetrate and cannot reach the blood stream. Corpora's DHA lotion has been developed by one of the leading Laboratories in the country and is certified by the Spanish Ministry of Health.
22. When I sunbathe, I break out in freckles and sun spots. Will the same happen with DHA?
DHA does not activate the skin's melanin, and therefore no new sun spots or freckles will appear.
23. How does it react with the freckles and sun spots I already have?
The different tones on our skin, whether dark or light patches, will not be "camouflaged" by applying DHA. The Corpora lotion is neither a dye nor a makeup. The skin is tanned in its entirety and keeps its different tones of pigmentation. The lotion does not intensify the tone of dark spots, nor does it disguise pale, depigmented areas of the skin.
24. If I spray on vitiligo (white patches), it is possible to soften the contrast?
Vitíligo is caused by a lack of melanin and therefore does not react to sun exposure, always maintaining its pale colour. However, these patches do react to DHA, as it acts upon the cells of the stratum corneum (the outermost skin layer). Although it is not possible to achieve the same intense tan tones, it is possible to achieve a light tan, thereby softening the contrast.
25. How does DHA react of the skin of people suffering from psoriasis, eczemas, etc.?
Psoriasis and eczemas are small red scaly patches. When DHA is sprayed on these areas, the colour does not last as long, as the skin flakes more frequently.
26. Can pregnant women spray DHA on their skin?
Yes, in principle, there is no risk for the mother, and certainly not for the foetus. In any case, we always recommend testing the product on a small area of skin, as pregnant women have a somewhat unpredictable metabolism, and tend to develop sensitivity to some products.
27. Can women who are breastfeeding use DHA tanning lotion?
Yes, although we recommend not to spray the breast area, as this could affect the taste of the milk and cause the baby to reject it.
28. What benefits does Corpora Sunless DHA tanning offer?
100% natural, and therefore a healthy alternative.
It is quick and safe.
It gives the skin a golden cinnamon tone without the need to expose it to harmful UV sun rays.
Ideal for special occasions.
Complements or deepens an existing tan.
It is not sticky and it applies evenly.
The tan disappears naturally and gradually, with the renewal of the skin.
The price is very affordable.
It is odour-free.
29. What should I do before a session?
It is essential to exfoliate properly before spraying, paying special attention to hands, feet, elbows and knees. This way we eliminate dead skin cells and we ensure that the surface layer is smooth and ready for the session. In general, the skin should be clean and free from residues from creams, perfumes, deodorants and makeup.
We advise the client to wear loose-fitting clothing on the day of the session.
30. Is it necessary to cover hair and eyebrows?
It is not necessary to protect your hair, mouth or eyes, as the Corpora lotion is 100% natural and contains no makeup. DHA does not react with hair or body hair, and thus does not alter its colour.
31. What should I do immediately after a session?
It is essential that you do not shower or practice sports during the first 6-8 hours. After this period, you can shower as usual.
32. Advice for maintaining an intense tan.
Moisturise skin daily.
Use soft shower gels and soaps, preferably pH-neutral.
Dry your skin without rubbing.
Avoid aggressive make-up removers.
Avoid bathing for a long time in the sea or in treated waters (swimming pools, spas, saunas, etc).
Do not carry out peelings or exfoliations.
Moisturise skin daily.
